Enjoy a Wisconsin Ice Fishing Vacation
Wisconsin ice fishing is very popular. About 25% of the fish is caught during the winter months. When ice fishing,
always carry your license with you and a copy of the Wisconsin Fishing regulations.
Recommended equipment for ice fishing:
1. Sled to haul your equipment onto the ice.
2. Auger to drill your fishing hole. The hole can be a maximum of 12 inches in diameter.
3. Skimmer to scoop out slush from your fishing hole.
4. Bucket to hold bait.
5. A large and heavy hook to get the fish out of the hole.
6. Small chair to sit on.
7. Plier to help get the hook out of the fish's mouth.
8. Dip net to retrieve baits from the bucket.
9. Shelter like a shanty or portable canvas shelter that helps to protect you from wind and blowing snow.
You also need the following fishing equipment:
1. A light fishing rod for fish like bluegills and a heavier rod for perch.
2. A tip up that signals when a fish bites your bait.
3. Several hooks, lures and jigs.
4. A 2-4 lb line for bluegills and about a 10-12 lb line for perch.
5. Leaders need to be strong for walleye and northern pike.
