Enjoy a Wisconsin Ice Fishing Vacation
Wisconsin ice fishing is very popular. About 25% of the fish is caught during the winter months. When ice fishing, always carry your license with you and a copy of the Wisconsin Fishing regulations.

You also need the following fishing equipment:
1. A light fishing rod for fish like bluegills and a heavier rod for perch. 2. A tip up that signals when a fish bites your bait. 3. Several hooks, lures and jigs. 4. A 2-4 lb line for bluegills and about a 10-12 lb line for perch. 5. Leaders need to be strong for walleye and northern pike.
Ice fishing rules and tips: 1. You cannot fish with more than 3 hooks at a time. For example, you can set up one tip up and fish with two rods. 2. The hole in the ice can be up to 12 inches only. 3. If you use a shelter, the shelter removal date is about the end of February. Check for a specific date. 4. Purchase a recreational fishing license. 5. Check the ice conditions. The ice should be at least 4 inches thick for walking on it. If you use a snowmobile or other vehicle, the ice should be at least 5 inches thick. 6. Dress in layers and wear wool hats, mittens and waterproof boots. 7. Fish with friends and carry a cell phone. 8. In Wisconsin bluegill and perch are the most caught fish. Also popular are walleye and northern pike.
