Successful Trout Fishing Trout fishing is done in streams and lakes, where the temperature is about 55 to 65 degrees. In winter and mid summer,
trout prefer deeper waters. Therefore, it is best to fish deeper during cool and hot days. Usually, it is better to fish
early in the morning or late evening hours. In streams, trout is often found close to rocks or tree stumps.
Trout like to eat natural food like insects, grasshoppers and flying ants. Imitations of these insects should also be
successful. Trout like to be near edges, because that is where minnows, earthworms, grubs and other insects will be.
In many trout streams, insects make up a large part of the trout's diet. Mayflies, caddisflies and stone flies are the most
important insects. Trout also like crayfish. Crayfish is good to use as bait during morning and late evening.
Fishing with lures that have rotating blades is very common. A flashing silver spinner blade will attract trout quite often.
On cloudy days or if the water is not very clear, gold or brass lures seem to work better. Other popular lures are spoons
and various swimming lures.
All species can be found in lakes. Trout fishing is very good right after the ice has melted in lakes that were
frozen. Trout are hungry and come close to the surface. Live minnows or canned eggs are good baits using a spinning or
fly tackle.
Lake fishing is best when the water is below 50 degrees. Therefore, you will have to sink the lure deeper.
