Spincasting Tackle

The spincasting tackle has become a popular fishing gear. The spincasting reel is mounted on top of a standard casting rod. The reel is covered with a metal or plastic housing. The fishing line comes out of a small hole in the front of the reel.

Spincasting represents a compromise between spinning tackle and the baitcasting tackle. It is not suited for ultralight fishing. The ultralight lures are not heavy enough to pull the line through the hole in the reel. The minimum is about a six pound line and a three eights to five eights ounce lure should be used to be successful.

Spincasting should be considered if:

1. You use lures and baits in the six to fourteen pound line range.
2. You like reliability and durability of your equipment.
3. You don't need to cast a great distance.
4. You are not interested in ultralight fishing.

A good spincasting rod is inexpensive. If you are just starting out fishing, this might be a good choice. Spincasting is easy to learn.

High quality spincasting manufacturers are Zebco and Pro Staff. Spincasting combos (rod and reel) cost about $30-35.
