Successful Salmon Fishing

Salmon fishing is mostly done in the Pacific Ocean and in the rivers that flow to it. Since the 1960s fishing for Coho and Chinook salmon has developed in the Great Lakes.

The Chinook salmon is mainly found in the West Coast waters, while the Coho is an important specie of the Great lakes. The average weight for a salmon caught is about 12 to 18 pounds, but many weigh 30 pounds or more.

When you see birds diving for fish, you can usually find salmon in the area. If you have a boat, it is generally productiveto speed to the area where the birds are. Drifting fresh or frozen bait, flashy metallic spoons and spinning lures with rotating blades will work.

Spinning lures in any metallic color are good choices for salmon in rivers. Spoons and blade spinning lures have been successful.
