Popular Minnesota Ice Fishing
Minnesota has over 10,000 lakes and large areas of woods. A Minnesota ice fishing vacation is very popular during the
winter months. During the summer months it offers a beautiful vacation. One of the activities is also fishing during
the summer.
Northern Pike is a good species for ice fishing. They are very aggressive and will take almost any bait. Most people use
tip ups. Northern Pike can be found usually 1-4 feet below the ice. Use large, sharp hooks to catch Northern Pike. Northern Pike fish have sharp
teeth, so use a steel leader.
When fishing for Perch, fish near the bottom. Jig or spoon lures seem to work fine. Perch tend to come in groups. If you get one
perch, others should be in the area.
Some important winter fishing regulations:
1. When fishing with a hook and line, the ice hole cannot be larger than 12 inches in diameter.
2. When spearing, the hole cannot be larger than 24x36 inches.
3. Fishing can be done with a fishing pole, tip up and spear.
Be sure to check all regulations before you begin ice fishing.
