Beginners should use
Worms for Live Bait Fishing

Fish have a tendency to take live bait deep into their body. A deeply hooked fish is difficult to release. Often undersized fish get badly injured and don't survive. That is the reason, why some streams are restricted to artificial lures.

The most common type of live bait are small fish, shrimp and worms. Fishing with worms is easy and the worms are easy to get. For most beginning anglers, the bobber method is easy to use. The bobber lets you see, if a bite occurred. The bobber is pulled under the surface when a fish bites the bait.

If you want bottom fishing with worms, you can use a sinker. Here the hook is attached above the sinker.

Worms are attached to the hook in such a way that they can wiggle. They should be attached lightly to the hook to getthe best action. The disadvantage is that the worm is easily snapped off the hook by the fish and you lose some bait.

Fishing with shrimp is very effective, because many fish feed on shrimp. Shrimp are usually easy to get and keep alive. They can easily be placed on a hook. A popular way is to put a small hook through the tail.

Other types of bait, include minnows, nymphs, grasshoppers, crickets, crayfish and frogs.

Natural bait is made of animal and vegetable products. It includes minnows, mullets, shrimp, squid, salmon eggs and many other types. It should be fresh and well preserved.

Buy only frozen bait that is tightly packed. The best way to get bait is to catch it yourself. Any excess should be frozen. When you want to use it, defrost it gradually.

Cheese, canned corn and salmon eggs are popular. Salmon eggs are the favorite for trout fishermen. Yellow, large kernel corn is attached to the hook just like salmon eggs. Soft cheese will stay on the hook better than crumbly cheese.

Fishing with bait is complicated, but it can be very successful, if used in a productive way.
