Ice Fishing Tip Ups are very helpful
Ice fishing tip ups, also known as traps, are made of wood or plastic and placed over the ice hole. The vertical stick or rod, which has a bait and reel attached, is put down the hole.
The standard tip up is generally made of two wooden sticks that form an X. It has a trigger device at the end of the vertical rod that is connected to the spool. A flag is attached on top of the vertical rod to signal a catch. Flags usually have a visible red color. The flag is locked into a spring. When fish pull on the fishing line the spring will release the flag.
A standard wood type tip up offered by Jack Traps costs about $35. It is built to withstand abuse.
The Cyclone Deluxe model costs about $10. It is a frame type unit that is durable and lightweight.
Cabela's Beaver Dam model is a very study system. The tube is made of seamless steel with freeze proof lubricant. A strong flag rod spring is on top of a 3" board. Price is about $35.
