Items for your
Ice Fishing Tackle

The following fishing items should make up your ice fishing tackle:

1. For pan fishing like bluegills you should use a light and flexible rod. A heavier rod is better for perch and walleyes. Price for an ice fishing rod is about $20-50.
2. A tip up is very convenient. A flag will indicate when a fish strikes. Price for tip ups is about $20-50.
3. A variety of hook sizes should be in your tackle box. Smaller hooks are recommended for bluegills and larger hooks are better for walleye and northern pike.
4. Several lures and jigs should be available. Jigs consist of a lead head and a skirt of feathers. Minnows are great for walleye fishing.
5. A 2-4 lb line for pan fish and a heavier 10-12 lb line for walleye and northern pike. Price for a line is about $2.
6. Leaders add strength to your fishing line. Most leaders are made from monofilament or stainless steel wire. Use a steel leader for walleye fishing.
