Portable ice huts come in various sizes and different materials. Popular material is canvas and nylon. It is important that the material is durable and resistant to water and fire. Thicker material will provide better protection and is more durable.

An important consideration is the weight of the hut. A one man hut should weigh about 45-60 lbs. Many of the newer huts can be erected in about a minute. The hut or tent should have at least one window placed at the correct height. If you use a propane heater make sure that the hut has good circulation. The hut should have several mesh windows with inside flaps.

Tent type shelters have usually thinner material and are lightweight. These shelters for one or two persons weigh about 20-30 lbs and can be set up in less than a minute.

Some huts have reflective stripes on the outside for safety. Inside storage is convenient for fishing accessories. A clear pocket on the outside for displaying your fishing license is helpful.

Prices for one or two person portable fishing huts or tents are about $120-400. Larger Cabins are available that can hold 4-6 people.
