Fishing Boats for
every Type of Fishing

The variety of fishing boats has increased a lot. Main categories are river boats, bass boats, center consoles, kayaks and canoes. Most of these boats are available in a variety of styles, sizes and materials.

Boats are designed to be used in waters to meet the fishing needs of various regions. These are some of the common boats:

Jon boats are flat bottom boats that are very stable and are excellent for still fishing. The material can be wood, aluminum or fiberglass. They are often powered by a small outboard motor. They are popular in many rivers, because the boats can be used in shallow water.

Prams are small wooden rowboats about 8 to 10 feet long. They can easily be transported in a trailer or pickup truck. Prams are excellent for fly fishing.

Drift Boats move with the current and are good for trout and small bass fishing.

Canoes are excellent when used in shallow rivers and medium current. They are lightweight and easy to handle. Aluminum canoes are most popular with anglers.

Power Boats
There are many types and designs of power fishing boats available. Flat bottom power models are ideal for fly and light tackle fishing. Catamarans are suited for large lakes, because they provide a smooth ride. They usually are 20-27 feet long.

When using a boat, become familiar with the proper use of the boat and rules of safety. Get some literature on safety and enroll in a boating course. For information on safety go to Boating Safety
