Bent Canoe Paddles

Bent canoe paddles are ideal for cruising on flat water. They are designed for shorter, more efficient strokes.

The paddles are produced by Bending Branches. The company revolutionized the industry by introducing the composite tip canoe paddles. The tip of every canoe paddle is protected with impact resistant resin, which extends the life of the paddle.

The BB Special paddle consists of seven laminates of basswood, maple and cherry. Price is about $85.

The Cruiser Plus 14 costs about $120. A fiberglass blade wrap protects the nine laminates of basswood, butternut and cherry. If the finish of the paddle becomes scratched or worn through, Bending Branches suggests you can repair it as follows:
1. Rub the area with a fine grit abrasive until it is smooth and dull.
2. Apply two or three thin coats of outdoor or marine grade polyurethane (not water based).
3. Rub lightly with the fine grit abrasive between coats for a better finish.
4. When the coat is dry you are ready to paddle.
5. If the wood is damaged, sand the area with 100 or 120 grit sandpaper. Then use the procedure above to finish.
